Hard Coral Snorkeling offers you the chance to get active and get in touch with nature in El Salvador. The snorkeling excursion, led by Los Cóbanos Tours, is inexpensive (only $12.00) and last about 3 hours.

The tour starts out walking down “El Amor” (Love Beach) to a point on one of the the beaches inside Los Cóbanos Protected Area. Here is where you get your snorkels ready. Held during low tide, the trip allows you to see lots of tropical fish, starfish, sea urchins, snails, and other marine life.

Family Fun at the National Zoo in San Salvador

For a bit of family fun in El Salvador, why not take a trip to the National Zoo? The official Spanish name is Parque Zoologico Nacional El Salvador, although even the most Spanish-challenged of Gringos are sure to be able to figure out that it means National Zoo.

The Zoo Nacional (I am practicing my Spanish!) is basically south of the city center and can be reached by public transportation or by taxi. If you are using the bus system, take the bus 2C that runs through Calle Modelo.

Art and Culture in San Salvador

The Museo de Arte de El Salvador, abbreviated MARTE, is a big modern art gallery that features some of El Salvador’s best artists. There is a permanent exhibition of paintings and sculptures that is devoted primarily to showcasing El Salvadoran artists.

One such artist is Raul Elas Reyes, a popular El Salvadoran painter. He is known for his use of light and color in painting the purple and yellow flowers of his tropical homeland. The Salvadoran art is largely Surrealist.
