One of the best surfing destinations in the world

Avid surfers are constantly searching the globe for hot new points to surf, and El Salvador is one of the ones that has been found, but is still being discovered. El Salvador is nice because it is less crowded than say Mexico or Costa Rica, but what makes it great is actually a little more… geographical.

Henry Morales, managing director of Wavehunters Surf Travel in California, explains: “What makes the surf so special in El Salvador is the topography. It’s the only country in Central American where there are 15 right point breaks.” For those of you who don’t know what that means to surfers, it is a very good thing. That is the ideal kind of wave Read more

The former guerrilla army peacefully won the battle this time, as opposed to the vicious 12 year civil war that ended just over 17 years ago.

Indigenous People in Apaneca

Apaneca is one of the best places in El Salvador to get in touch with the native indigenous people.

This picture comes from MrRandMcnally of a group singing in the language of the Nahuatl: Nahuat or Pipil.

The locals are friendly. If you speak a little Spanish I recommend you ask them about their lives, it is a great way to get a feel for the people of El Salvador. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, they are welcoming and will talk to you, and if you’re lucky, play you music!

El Salvador as a Top Travel and Tourism Destination

One thing is for sure… in the race to be “the next Costa Rica” El Salvador is not sitting on its laurels. On the contrary, the Ministry of Tourism is putting into action plans that will increase El Salvador’s attractiveness as a travel and tourism, and hopefully catapult El Salvador to the popularity of Costa Rica.

Not that we want El Salvador to become just like Costa Rica… in my opinion the country is a little too worn-down and common when it comes to tourists. And we don’t want another Panama either… the infrastructure is nice, the first-world prices are not.

No, I believe El Salvador will make its own mark on the tourism industry, thanks largely in part to the Read more
