Helpful Information for Tourists in Juayua

The greatest resource you can have when it comes to travel in Juayua (not counting a Spanish-English dictionary if you don’t speak the language) is the information available on www.juayua.com. The website is actually all in Spanish… so you will need that dictionary for sure!

Juayua.com has photo galleries of the city, a calendar of events, hotel listings, info on tour companies, restaurants, news, transportation and more. It is like one stop shopping for this little town that is talked about all over the internet as one of the best stops on the Route of the Flowers.

I think my favorite is the “Comida Rapida” section, which highlights the three “fast food” places in Juayua, all right by city Read more

Visit to a Coffee Museum and Farm Outside Juayua

The most popular first stop on the Ruta de los Flores is Juayua. It is most famous for it’s food festival held every weekend, with tons of different dishes to choose from, most of them being carnivorous.

Make sure you plan a trip to Juayua on the weekend to make sure you get to take part in this fabulous event.

Another fun thing to do in Juayua is visit the Coffee Museum in the nearby town called San Jose La Majada. They have a little guided tour that takes you through the coffee mill and shows you the process of making coffee. The Route of the Flowers – First Stop, Nahuizalco!

The Route of the Flowers – First Stop, Nahuizalco!

The Route of the Flowers is one of the most popular destinations in El Salvador. One of the first stops on the journey into the department of Sonsonate is Nahuizalco, a town at the base of the Sierra Apaneca-Itlamatepec. It is famous for its native community and their massive production of arts and crafts.

The town is full of little stores boasting high quality local artwork and wicker and reed baskets. Nahuizalco is most famous for its furniture, which is the pride of the people, hand-crafted into a variety of exquisite designs from Indian shot, cedar and bay wood.

The prices are very reasonable – everyone in this town makes furniture! It is a family art that has been handed down Read more

Free Text Messages in El Salvador

The Other El Salvador.com has put this link up on how to send free text messages from the internet to any El Salvadoran cell phone: http://www.svcommunity.org/code/mensajitos.php

Not sure if it works, but I figured I would put it up there and give it a shot. I’m not too huge on the text messaging, but I know it is getting pretty popular, so hopefully this link can help some of you out there save your minutes for more important things than mini-messages.

Organic Farm and Hotel in El Salvador

Once you have landed in El Sal, you will need a place to stay. There are your standard options within the city, major hotel names like the Marriott, Holiday Inn, Radisson, InterContinental types, and then there are a whole slew of other types of hotels and hostels.

For something even more different, check out the Hotel Lisa Guest House, an organic farm/hotel located only 30 minutes north of San Salvador, just off the main road to Honduras (Troncal del Norte).

The rooms are comfortable, large, and private, with double beds, and bunk beds for children. Room with A/C, a ceiling fan, and a TV and a private bath cost only US $25 for two people, and Read more

Renting a Car in El Salvador

Driving in El Salvador, especially in San Salvador, can be a little intimidating if you’ve only ever driven on proper North American roads (excluding Manhattan, obviously – if you can navigate that city, you will be just fine…)

Be alert, traffic is fluid, lanes might as well not even exist; you have to know where every car is at all times, that way if you need to shift lanes, you can do so easily. Basically, you have to drive with the awareness that they taught you in driver’s ed, but obey none of the rules!

To rent a vehicle you need a valid driver’s license that is at least one year old. You must also have one of the following Read more

El Salvador as a Top Travel and Tourism Destination

One thing is for sure… in the race to be “the next Costa Rica” El Salvador is not sitting on its laurels. On the contrary, the Ministry of Tourism is putting into action plans that will increase El Salvador’s attractiveness as a travel and tourism, and hopefully catapult El Salvador to the popularity of Costa Rica.

Not that we want El Salvador to become just like Costa Rica… in my opinion the country is a little too worn-down and common when it comes to tourists. And we don’t want another Panama either… the infrastructure is nice, the first-world prices are not.

No, I believe El Salvador will make its own mark on the tourism industry, thanks largely in part to the Read more
